I have always been interested in wearable art and sculpture, drawing inspiration from items that can sometimes be overlooked, but are personal and nostalgic. I grew up in rural South Texas, and the influence of rodeo culture and Western art style has stuck with me and shapes my creative process and personal identity. Showing goats at the stock shows and watching rodeos used to be a part of my everyday life, and those experiences still resonate with me.

Since moving to Denton, there are many experiences I have found I wish I could make last; my old show boots, the goats I have raised, and open pastures. I want to turn the feeling of home and comfort into art that anyone can relate to, regardless of their background. Through my jewelry, my goal is to preserve special moments, no matter how simple they may seem.

My inspiration begins with everyday objects. In my recent work, I have been using discarded dishware to make jewelry pieces. By using durable materials like metal, I am able to show the lasting importance of the piece while maintaining my airy and soft aesthetic. I love to explore the contrast between the hardness of metal and the gentle nature of other materials. Using floral patterned plates has allowed me to tie into my ranch roots and create something that can also remind others of home.

I love jewelry and metalsmithing because it gives me a different way to fit art into daily life compared to other art forms.  I prioritize wearability and I aim for my metalsmithing and jewelry pieces to reflect the value of tradition, time, and effort of craftsmanship and fit the comfort of simplicity.
